Nothing says “Summer!” quite like the refreshing zestiness and mouthfilling fruitiness of Sauvignon Blanc. There truly is no better accompaniment to the special kind of 'easy livin' we do in summer (and, in a way, the bottle is like a time capsule, which traps the summer season for enjoyment at a future date)

So, it's been frustrating for us at Cloof not to have our own Sauvignon Blanc (admittedly, we also made life a little harder for ourselves by blending the little that we had with Chenin, to make Daisy Darling).

In 2011, circumstances finally worked in our favour, and we were given the go-ahead to do a solo bottling. This being Cloof, we couldn't just take an existing label and edit the grape variety. This meant calling in our creative muse, who pulled on his thinking cap.

He claims to have instantly heard conflicting melodies and lyrics. On the one side was George Gershwin's Summertime (of which over 24 000 recordings have been made). Less languid in feel, but no less emotive, was Mungo Jerry's In the Summertime (no more psychedelics for him, please!).

The wine had to be called Summertime. This was the easy part; arriving at the label design took a lot longer, and the issue wasn't settled until the muse asked that a bikini be draped from the end of the beautiful serif 'S' that dominates the label (perhaps there is something other than Sauvignon Blanc that shouts “Summer!”).
